Large antique handmade 1920s silk ribbon floral spray in a polychrome color scheme...
Highly collectible and hard-to-find, these large, beautiful, dimensional floral sprays are useful for embellishing hats, pillows, picture frames, doll apparel, lamp shades, drapery, bedspreads, etc. They are fashioned ofmetallicsilk ombre ribbon in shades of pink, plum, peach & blue, and feature a large, plum-pinkish cabochon flower which has emanating silk floss vines with greenery and petite silk ribbon floral buds of various hues. The silk floss is wired, so shaping and positioning is flexible as shown in the photo.
Measures overall ~4-5 inches wide with some variation, ~7-8 inches long with some variation, and finished all around. The large cabochon flower spans ~2-2\"1/4\"X2-2&1/4\" with slight variation among the floral sprays, and may be reshaped/enlarged with light steam. The petite buds along the vines measure overall ~1X1\" with slight variation in size and the number along the vines varies among the floral spraysavailable.
In overall well-preserved, good-very good condition considering age, with inconsistent age discoloration & fading (more so along the greenery) which can be addressed, occasional scraggly threads/unraveled threadsmore so along the backside which can be addressed, some fraying along the unfinished edges, some fraying/separation of the metallictrim from the ombre ribbon & some splits/breaks in the silk which can also be addressed, a rare small spot, a few flea bites/breaks in the silk, and some wrinkling of theflowers which can be reshaped and enlivened with light steam. The vines may also lengthened slightly with light steam. No two sprays are identical in appearance. Please enlarge photos for details.
