Greetings. Offered for sale is the original artwork for the August 19, 1966 daily comic strip titled ABBIE AN' SLATSdrawn (and probably written) by Raeburn Van Buren. While Elliot Caplin (brother of Al Capp) is often credited as the writer of the strip, most strip historians believe that Van Buren wrote and drew the strip in its later years.
Description:-Art Type: Original daily comic strip artwork.-Medium: Pen and ink over graphite/pencil on art board.-Publisher: United Feature Syndicate, Inc.-Publication Date: 11-14-1970 as per hand written date and copyright indicia.-Dimensions: Approximately 20.5" wide by 7" tall (board dimensions; image slightly smaller)-Signed: Yes. Signed "R. Van Buren". -Description: This is the original artwork for the November 14, 1970 daily comic strip Abbie An' Slats, drawn (and probably written) by Raeburn Van Buren (1891-1987). This daily features two men (detectives?) searching for "Bathless" Groggins in a hobo camp. Meanwhile, Bathless has apparently been trapped by Circe, and is dozing in a lonely castle. An unusual fantasy story arc in this classic strip which typically focused on more dramatic (and slice-of-life) themes. Nicely rendered strip by a master of the form. BT
Condition: The art is in excellent overall condition. Minor age/handling wear. Pencil notes (presumably by Mr. Van Buren, to assistant/inker) in bottom margin. Pencil notes to reverse.
