AMBROTYPE PHINEAS KIMBALL VT 1812 VET FATHER OF HIRAM MORMON BATTLE OF NAUVOO IL: $13999.99
A rare Ambrotype of Phineas Kimball (1780 - 1869), War of 1812 militiaman, whose sons, Hiram, Ethan, and Phineas became Latter-day Saints. His family are notable early Americans and his father was a Revolutionary War veteran. Hiram was the most notable and fought at the Battle of Nauvoo. An ancestor erroneously identified his/her ancestor as Phineas\' (the younger) father, Phineas Kimball (1747 - 1842) but Ambrotypes did not exist at that time. That false identification is however compelling. Ambrotypes were developed in the early 1850s, most studio use started in 1854, and the sitter does appear to be in his 70s. Last origin Illinois. Findagrave states, \"War of 1812 veteran. In 1814 he raised a company of volunteers in West Fairlee that volunteered to protect Plattsburgh, New York from a British invasion based in Canada. Kimball was appointed commander with the rank of Lieutenant, and was later promoted to Captain.\" Findagrave also indicates his father was a Revolutionary War veteran: \"He enlisted as a private in the Revolutionary War on July 7, 1780 along with his brother Ebenezeir. They were placed in Captain Jonathan Ayer\'s Company within Col. Nathaniel Wade\'s Regiment. The two of them went to reinforce the Continental Army for three months and fifteen days, they were discharged on October 10, 1780. Included in their service was twelve days to travel 240 miles home.\" See additional information regarding sitter, father and sons online with some pictured here. Source of \"second Kimball connection\" is Brigham Young University. Fine detail with craquelure and missing half case and velvet surround as pictured. Unaltered condition. Serious inquiries only. Shipped fully insured with UPS although alternative arrangements can be arranged. Thanks for looking.
