This is an antique brownand white carte-de-visite. It shows a beautiful view of a group of Aboriginalswith Boomerangs.They are members of R. A. Cunningham Australian Aboriginalinternational touring company. In 1882 Canadiantheatrical agent Robert A Cunningham came to Queensland to secure \'wild\'Aboriginal people as performers for touring in America and Europe in PTBarnum\'s show, \'Ethnological Congress of Strange and Savage Tribes\'. Six of thenine troupe members \'recruited\' were from separate communities on Palm Islandand three from Hinchinbrook Island. They did not all speak the same traditionallanguages. Only two spoke some English, and these were used to assertCunningham\'s claims that they were not coerced. Their performance inBarnum\'s Congress began in 1883 and in the following year two members of thetroupe, Tambo and Wangong, had died. Thisalbumen silver photo was taken by William Robinson for Negretti and Zambra, Crystal Palace, London, England in April1884. So it is more than one HUNDRED and 35 years OLD. Size isapproximately 6.5 x 10.5 cm. On bottom side of the cardboard are some pencildots. Condition: very good.
