Great for making fashion doll dresses! Because this fabric and pattern was very popular for Huret, Rohmer, Bru and other early fashion dolls of XIX C. You can see example of the style on the last photo (these dresses not for sale, only for example).
Why the small wide of this fabric? In France during this period (1860-1870) , the looms were typically small and manually operated, producing fabric widths commonly between 14 to 18 inches (35-45 cm) for certain types of textiles, especially in rural areas and for specialty fabrics like delicate linens or silks. These widths were practical for weaving by hand and were suited to the technology of the time. By the mid-19th century, with the Industrial Revolution in full swing, wider fabrics became more common due to larger, power-operated looms, which could produce fabrics up to 36 inches (90 cm) and beyond.
