For you to consider are a pair of French Neoclassical Second Empire period patinated bronze covered cassolette urns. Mounted on a circular stepped plinth style base of black onyx and red marble, the exquisitely cast bronze urns are decorated with a foliate slip trail with berries and fruit, curved handles with acorn finials on either side, and a large leaf and berry finial on the cover. Dating to the 1860s, the urns stand approximately 9” in height on a 5.5” diameter base, measure 6.5” from handle to handle, and weigh nearly 6 pounds each. A large chip can be found on the onyx at the bottom base line as well as several other smaller chips nearby. Given the location of the chips where the base meets its placement and that the majority of the loss is actually underneath the base, these are not glaringly obvious or distracting when the urns are displayed. Otherwise both cassolettes are in beautiful heirloom condition with no corrosion or loss to the bronze, no cracks, prior repairs, or other compromising imperfections of note. Obviously much loved and well taken care of across a century and a half, light wear commensurate for age and history of use is expected and seen so please regard the photos as they form a descriptive part of the listing.
