A unique find in the mountains of the American Southwest, here is an antique solid wooden bookend set, with hand-carved figural gold-hued end pieces. The figures depicted have quite compelling expressions, and the detail scrollwork and design are masterfully done.
The hinges work easily and well. The wooden base is level and not warped; there is a small crack at one end of the base but the base feels solid. There is a knock off one corner of one end piece. The end pieces fold over on their hinges to lay flat, and when laying down, they are about 1 1/2" in height measuring from the table top. There is wear and some cracking on both end pieces.
The piece is 16 1/4" long and is about 5 1/4" in width. The top of the bookends is 7" from the table top. This does not extend out further; it is fixed.
