Here we have a vintage mesmerizing sandcast silver naja with hands at the ends and a stunning piece of blue chocolate turquoise in the center. The naja form was brought to the New World from Spain and Morocco and adopted by the Navajo and other Native Americans. some silversmiths add hands on each end of the crescent, which many suspect originate as a reference to Hamsa or the hands of Fatima. According to the Jewish Women’s Archive, this symbolic hand symbol represents “protection in both Jewish and Islamic cultures [and relates] to Fatima, the daughter of the Prophet Mohammed (the founder of Islam), and Miriam, the sister of Moses.” Also in Colton Charley’s version, is a fleur-de-lis design, which is another common embellishment of the naja and also clearly derived from outside of Diné culture. The fleur-de-lis, which is a stylized representation of a lily flower, is most commonly associated with the traditional coat of arms of France
