WHAT IS GREAT ABOUT IT:

This significant huge masterpiece bracelet is a fabulous and very rare hand crafted early century Zuni work of art which evidences a unique mastery of silver work with two kinds of Dan Simplicio's spectacular stylized leaves and his hand cut serrated bezels, along with varied large applied raindrops and his carved natural turquoise stones and carved coral. This is classic early Dan Simplicio and very large and important in size and quality. It exemplifies his most prototypical naturalistic work and it is very rare to find since pieces like this have settled into museums and important collections. Set on two heavy carinated wires with thick twisted wire in the center, it narrows together at the terminals where it is wrapped, and widens at the center. A large plate is set on this foundation, which is cut in zig zag to the form of the carved leaves at the sides and on which is set not only the numerous leaves, but also six hand cut and buffed natural blue turquoise stones and the hand cut and buffed coral stone as well as the numerous raindrops. The design represents Dan Simplicio's most famous work and the piece is very substantial being 3" wide at the center and weighing 112.8grams. It is highly dimensional, with tremendous aesthetic movement and liveliness in the well balanced and gorgeous naturalistic aesthetic for which he is best known. The bracelet is a virtual garden of delight. In the next to last picture you will see a matching ring I'll be offering separately. It's a perfect match for this bracelet, a matching necklace in my store and another bracelet of his I'll be listing soon. This is a showpiece museum quality Dan Simplicio bracelet, and it's highly collectible and very rare.

CONDITION:

Excellent vintage, wearable and collectible condition.

MEASUREMENTS:

• Internal length silver alone of 5-1/2", gap of 1-3/16" total 6-11/16". Note that when the width is this wide, one's wrist can wear a larger size.
• width of 3" center, tapering to 5/8" at the terminals for comfort
• weight significant 112.8grams
• no hallmark and not marked for silver content, both usual for those times and for this artist. Guaranteed definite attribution to Dan Simplicio, the great Zuni artist, and tests sterling silver .925

SUMMARY:

Dan Simplicio is one of the most renowned early Zuni master silversmiths. He did considerable work for CG Wallace, was collected by him and was included in the Sotheby's sale catalog. He was always renowned, collected, prize winning and represented in the best museums and galleries. I especially adore his work and this particular bracelet is in my view, a great find. The color of the stones are rich, deep and vibrant. The design with the applied raindrops is especially wonderful and one of the rare examples of any work of this nature; he also included two each of his most famous leaf designs. The leaves are so special that the frame was cut to the same design as the two wing leaves, so they are properly a focus and not distracted from by the silver underneath. Dan Simplicio was responsible for bringing a naturalistic aesthetic into the artistry. There is a fabulous aesthetic relationship, which you can't see as well in pictures as in person, between the stones and the leaves and the raindrops; there is considerable movement and dimensionality.

This is an important collector piece which is museum worthy, as well. It is a best example of a most desired rather huge form that Dan Simplicio created. I recommend it for the best of collections; it is so breathtaking that I personally can't take my eyes off it. It is a delight to wear and to hold, too. It is great in the hand and on the arm. Every aspect and every angle are spectacular.

Pieces of his that are this special are rarely available and are many times the price at which I'm offering, when they are available at all. Generally, only at the best of galleries.
