Numbered 1/50 (1st of *3).ARMED WITH HIS BIBLE, the subject is the State of Washington\'s most historicfigure: frontiersman, Dr. Marcus Whitman (Oregon Trail, Whitman massacre, Whitman college).
Avard cast3 life-size Whitman statues and 3 of thesesmaller, 27\" statues.The 3 life size statuesare locatedat The National Statuary Hall within rotundaof TheU.S. Capital Building in Washington D.C., the rotunda of The State Capital Buildingin Olympia, Washingtonandthe 3rd isat Whitman College inWalla Walla, Washington.
The statue isnumbered 1/50 but authoritiesconfirm that only*3 of these 1/4 scale statueswere ever actually cast,this being the very 1st cast. The family has confirmed that this statue was cast by Avard (not one of his descendants). It\'s believed that the three 1/4 scale statues were given to personsinvolved in the life-size statue\'s placementin the Washington State Capital Building. Meaning, this statue was in Avard\'s personalpossession for 30 years (1950 to 1980).We were told, and our research seems to confirm, that Avard gifted this first statue to Governor Dixy Lee Ray (1914-1994).
Included is the original Press Release from THE OREGONIAN (photo w/ description on back) forthe Olympiaplacement on October 9th 1980.Also included isthe book (printed by the U.S. government) documenting the 1st life size statue\'s placement within the rotunda of The U.S. Capital Building in Washington D.C. in 1953.
