STALACTITES:
Cave calcite (also called cave popcorn or coralloids) is not actually calcite, but aragonite. This mineral forms within caves, mines and moist areas that are rich in limestone. Formations occur as stalactites and stalagmites, typically as botryoidal or feathery (\'floss ferri\') braches. A stalactite is a type of formation that hangs from the ceiling of caves, hot springs, or manmade structures such as bridges and mines. The corresponding formation on the floor of the cave is known as a stalagmite.
