DIANE after Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741 - 1828) Metal bronzed , ca. 1880, France DIANE after Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741 - 1828) Metal bronzed , ca. 1880, France descriptionDescriptionDetailsAbout me

Classicist bust of Diane by the French sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741 - 1828), Zinc castbronzed (dark patina), 1870/1880, 47cm .

The life-size half-length portrait of the beautiful Diane, the goddess of the hunt, was named after the famous Diane chasseresse manufactured by 1780.

The first version was made of marble. The young, unclothed goddess almost took the breath away from visitors to the Parisian studio.

Houdon succeeded in awakening the figure from its classical aloofness and the goddess now seemed to float lightly out of the marble plinth. His Diane does without any ornamentation, only the crescent-shaped diadem indicates her divine origins. The figure was considered the epitome of classic female beauty and is now in the Louvre. Thanks to the invention of the French engineer Achille Collas, from the early 19th In the 19th century the most sought-after sculptures of its time were reproduced in various sizes, including the Diane.

In the reduction as a bust, Diane, who was actually “dressed according to nature”, ie naked, was given an off-the-shoulder gown that only covers the breast here on one side.

Very good casting of high quality, on the reverse the artist name " Houdon " (also cast) and the plaque "Fabrication Francaise Paris Made in France". Very good condition, including the red marble base.

Height: 65 cm , weight: 12 kg

Lit .: G. Scherf: Houdon 1741 - 1828, Statues, portraits sculptés ..., Edition Musée du Louvres, Paris, 2006, pp. 215-217

Classic is bust of Diane by French sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828), bronzed zinc casting (dark patina), 1870/1880, 47 cm .

The life-size bust of the beautiful Diane, the goddess of hunting, was made after the famous Diane chasseresse of 1780.

The first version was executed in marble. The young unclothed goddess almost took the breath away of visitors to the Paris studio.

Houdon succeeded in awakening the figure from its classical aloofness and light-footedly the goddess now seemed to float out of the marble base. His Diane dispenses with any ornamentation; the crescent-shaped diadem alone refers to her divine origins. The figure was considered the epitome of classical female beauty and is now in the Louvre. Thanks to the invention of the French engineer Achille Collas, from the early 19th century the most sought-after sculptures of his time could be reproduced in various sizes, including Diane.

In the reduction as a bust Diane, who was actually "dressed according to nature", that is, naked, was given an off-the-shoulder robe, which here covers the bust only on one side.

Very good casting of high quality, on the back of the artist's name " Houdon " (co-cast) and the plaque "Fabrication Francaise Paris Made in France". Very good condition, including the red marble base.

You surely know the exciting feeling when you see or experience something special, when the heart bounces in excitement and the joy inside it spreads. That's what I wanted more in my life and that's how this shop came about. The foundation stone was a study of literature and art history as well as cultural communication. Curiosity, thirst for knowledge and a lot of collaboration with amazing personalities in the art and design world are how I got myself to where I am today. Through antiquities, history becomes tangible in the literal sense, one can perceive it sensually. They calmly defy the constant change of fashions and the taste of the times. They are like a bridge between past and present. For me personally they are an inexhaustible source of inspiration. Some objects give up puzzles, lock themselves up; others quite frankly reveal their past. They radiate joie de vivre, astonish or enchant us; make a collector's heart beat faster or become good friends and a meaningful place in your lives. They may be bulky or controversial, but they are never boring. I believe the stories, the hands, and the tradition behind the objects are equally as important as their aesthetic qualities. Antique objects can adds so much value to your life, and I personally cannot imagine a home without it. Each piece in my shop has been thoughtfully and personally chosen.
