Antique Frances Fanny Burney (aka Madame D'Arblay) Mezzotint in Giltwood Frame 12 by 14
This is an antique engraving mezzotint of Frances Burney after a painting by E. Burney who was her cousin. She was a satirical novelist, diarist and playwright and had a long writing career that gained her a reputation of one of England's foremost literary authors. In 1793, at the age of 41 she married a French exile, General Alexandre d'Arblay. The frame measures 12 inches in width and 14 inches height. The print image is 5.5 inches width by 7.5 inches height. It is signed M D'Arblay and read "after a print by E. Burney. Johnson & Wilson & Co. Publishers New York.Print is in good condition. This has not been examined out of the frame. Gold frame has wear and some loss to the giltwood. On the reverse is some labeling and an older stock label from a print shop. It is labeled incorrectly identifying it as "Mrs. John Jay ( Sarah Livingston), after a painting by E. Burney, 1872. This print comes from the von Trott Collection of Antique Prints and is offered at the 1984 selling. "
