Presenting a stunning vintage Australian Aboriginal Mokoy Ancestral Spirit figure masterfully hand carved and magnificently hand painted by Audrey Petyarre of the Alyawarre language group in North Utopia, Northern Territory.This exceptionally impressive Mokoy has been hand carved from one solid piece of incredibly heavy timber. The figure is spectacularly decorated with a masterfully executed traditional dot painting adorning the chest and back. A series of vertical lines surround concentric circle to the back and triangular formations to the front. The finely detailed painting has been rendered in appealing earthy tones while the head and legs have been finished in deep black. A simple slot mouth, circular eyes and carved nose beautifully detail the rounded head, perfectly completing this exquisite example. Adze marks to the body beautifully enhance the charm of this hand crafted work of art. SIZE: This exceptionally impressive Aboriginal Mokoy stands approx 61.5cms or 24 inches tall and measures 16cms in diameter at the base.WEIGHT: This substantial piece weights just over 4.7kgs unpackaged.CONDITION: This piece is presented in excellent vintage condition with no breaks or repairs. The hand painted design remains wonderfully rich and vibrant with just the odd minor scuff and scrape which rather adds to its charm. There is an unpainted patch beneath the figures nose which appears to be a spot the artist has missed painting as opposed to later wear. This piece has been very well cared for and presents spectacularly.MARKS: This piece retains its original gallery swing tag providing the details of the artist and date of creation \"Audrey Petyarre Alyawarre Nth Utopia Sept 93\".THE ARTIST: Listed Australian Aboriginal artist Audrey Petyarre was active after 1990 and is represented in several galleries including the Art Gallery of NSW and the AGSA, South Australia. Large sculptural pieces by this artist rarely come onto the market with her paintings and prints more well known.
