A 1796 PATTERN HEAVY CAVALRY OFFICER'S DRESS SWORD, 87.5cm broad blade profusely decorated with scrolling foliage and flowers, an angel, a figure of Britannia, a figure of an officer wielding his sword, stands of arms, crowned Royal arms and a crowned GR cypher, marked Woolley & Deakin Improved Steel, highlighted in gilt on a blued ground, patination, regulation gilt hilt, wire bound grip, contained in its copper gilt mounted leather scabbard, the upper mount with maker's panel Woolley & Deakin Sword Cutlers Birm.m (Birmingham). Scabbard leather restored. Overall length is 105 cm. James Woolley of Birmingham, sword manufacturer, and Thomas Deakin of Birmingham, cutler. The firm Woolley & Deakin were in Birmingham, and under this name 1800-07.
