A Norris style infill smoothing plane that’s razor sharp and ready to use. This originally came from the estate of a London coffin maker, and probably dates from 1880’s. The 1/4 thick Sheffield iron has makers mark on it and again, I have it razor sharp and it’s excellent quality steel that’s superior to most any modern steels I’ve used. 9 and 1/2 inches length; 2.5 inches wide and iron is 2 and 1/8th inches wide. Infill wood is some species of walnut, and most likely English walnut. Heavy, thick solid brass iron tightener with threaded knurled knob— and works perfectly for holding the iron exactly where you want it, especially for the tiniest throat opening for the finest shavings.

Has unusual (possibly an old repair and possibly not ) finger jointed metal on one side only ( see photos), but is expertly fitted and the metal has the same oxidation, so it was either repaired about the time of manufacture, or possibly the maker did finger joints on one side and decided it was too difficult to do the other. I don’t know, but it works exactly as it should and has no effect whatsoever on the function or solidity of the plane.

There’s a thin surface crack in the walnut handle, but it is stable and only on the surface and doesn’t affect use or need attention.

Again, this is a razor sharp user, and since I mainly use my Lie Nielsen smoother, this should go to someone who will use it as much as I used to. It’s easy to adjust and you can get a tiny throat opening for the finest shavings.
