This is a superb pair of Staffordshire recumbent greyhound / Whippet dogs with their wonderful overall portrayals, mounted onto the decorative cobalt blue bases with the quill / pen holders (inkwells) to the frontsc1880's - Pottery, ceramicThe dogs have thin black collars and beautiful faces with big eyes and whiskers. Each is hand painted . What is particularly charming is that the dogs are just slightly different - they clearly were handwork and although each part of the body was probably made in the same mold, how the dog was put together depended on the person who shaped them. They have Crossed feet with the long tails curling to the fronts. Mounted onto the decorative cobalt blue hollowed bases with the gilt bands.
