Paquime Designs

Width - 3.25 inches
Height - 2.75 inches
Weight - 4 ouncesArtist Girardo Mora Teña is the master craftsman behind this pottery. His work covers a wide spectrum of creativity and design. Also, his work has been difficult to acquire, but I have it here!
His creation of this art is very time consuming. He harvests his own clay in the nearby Sierra Madre Mountains. The dye for the glaze is obtained from local plants and stone and soil. The pottery is bathed in symbols and shapes first used in the Chihuahua Casas Grandes region one thousand years ago. This is an old art form in the New World.
Paquime impressions of geometric triangles swath the opening in a circular pattern. Ancient cosmic pinwheels and abstract shapes are everywhere. For a small piece such as this, there is an amazing amount of detail.
This pottery is new and is fresh and has never previously been owned. It comes with a pottery ring to sit on. The Artists signature is on the bottom.
And know with confidence that I hand select each piece for sale and put each piece through a series of tests to make sure it is the highest grade pottery from the artists. AND, I do not charge more than the competitors selling inferior quality style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial;\">
Mata Ortiz is legendary, both the village and the pottery taking its name.

In the 70\'s a young man began experimenting with recreating ancient pottery he would come across. He used the same clay sand mixtures from materials found in the area in which the ancients lived and made their pottery. The same firing techniques using the same local materials eventually created the same magnificent results. Half a century later and much of the village of Mata Ortiz has taken on these incredible skills for creating masterpieces, with each artist contributing hers and his own sense of beauty.

The designs are bold, earthy and individualistic.

Paint brushes consisting of one or two human hairs create the finest lines. Images revealed through carvings are created by nearly microscopic sharpened points. Paints are developed from minerals found in the surrounding desert. Many colors are only revealed after intense firing at very high temperatures. These creations are truly unique transformations that only this small little region of the world can create from it\'s own soil.

I have been tangentially around Mata Ortiz for 30 years. Now I am spiritually bound by their overwhelming beauty and intense and intricate designs. When I look at one of the pieces, I feel I am meeting in person the artists who created this, and am visiting their home.

This pot is signed its creator, Fabian Ortiz. A search of his name will bring you to some fascinating pieces of his artistry. Please be sure to view a short video of this pottery.
