Rare Antique German Paper Litho Embossed Die Cut Mechanical Toy Xmas Ornament:

NOTE: Taken in bright light - what you see in some of the photos is ‘glare’ as the piece has an embossed slightly glossy early litho finish. Dating to The 1880s A Rare Antique ‘Mechanical’ Embossed Patriotic Die Cut Ornament Pull Toy with Wonderful Xmas Eve Scenes and Imagery. Most likely by Raphael Tuck or German with ‘tons’ of Tiny images of Early Christmas Imagery and Scenes, As well as a depiction of both a London Flag and a US Flag.

A very difficult and rare piece to find: A very early Victorian Embossed Paper Die Cut Feather Tree or Christmas Tree Ornament that also doubled as A mechanical ‘Pull Toy’:

* When you gently ‘pull and push’ up the cardboard ‘handle’ at the bottom: Branches of The Tree, and Numerous Tucked images ‘Pop Upwards and Out’.

Made of Numerous Layers and Inserts of thin Embossed Paper in the shape of a Xmas Tree this piece is Bursting with Tiny vibrant scenes and imagery of Christmas Eve:

Everything from: Eating Dinner with Plum Pudding being Served, Xmas Eve Snow Scenes, Candles, Christmas Toys, Toy Soldiers, Flying Angels that look like the Early Wax Angels, image of A Horse on wheels pull toy, Dolls, Cornucopia Candy Containers, and Both An American Flag and a London Flag.

It does work, it’s a little tricky, and very delicate. It’s amazing that any examples survived.

My guess is that there was possibly a small piece of paper at the top/in the back that contained a threaded ‘loop’ to hang it on the tree. Or it was simply placed under a table top tree as a Toy.
