When I first saw Scottie Young's new character designs, I was well, disgusted. I felt that he was going for shock value to be changing everyone's favorite fantasy characters: Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Woodman and Lion, so drastically. But I must admit, these designs work! Except for the Tin Woodman, I loved them all, and I didn't even hate that one, I just felt it was awkward. And the adaption by Eric Shanower is complete. It keeps all of Baum's plot and makes it so easy to grasp and share. This is the best introduction to Oz I can think of, besides the original novel, and it is easier for kids to get caught up in having every single scene from the original illustrated!! The colors change too, just like in the original. Which I totally admire since so many adaptions leave that stuff out. If you are on the fence, let me push you over on the side that makes you buy this!!Read full review
