    Watershed Comic

This is a collection of the 1986 four-issue series which firmly raised the bar for DC comics in general, and the Batman in particular. This will probably be the work Frank Miller will be remembered for. Here the silliness and camp of the 1960s is forever banished (aside from the occasional whimsy of encounters with Harley Quinn) to be replaced by genuine composition and thought, firmly entrenching the Batman in the dark moodiness the character was meant to inhabit. This movie made the Tim Burton films possible, as well as the triumphs of the DC animated efforts. The jury is still out on whether or not this will stand as the penultimate Batman story, but very little has come along to challenge its position.

  • One of the best graphic novels to ever come out.

An awesome book. The jump cuts and use of media figures throughout the book to propel the narrative is superb styling. The art work and angle shots makes it seem like a movie experience. In fact much of the dialogue turns up in latter Batman or Superman movies. Though one of the first graphic novels, it's unique artwork and story line makes it timeless.

  • Dark....and a classic!

While I was initially confused by all of the small, jumbled drawings and multiple frames featuring copious amounts of words, I grew to enjoy this book a great deal. It ranks behind "Knightfall" (all three parts), "A Death In The Family" and "The Killing Joke", but that is no insult, because it almost approaches the brilliance of those three Batman classics. Miller is a master of crafting dark stories with intriguing characters, and he brings Batman to life in a way that he has never been before. I highly recommend this to die-hard Batman fans as well as anyone who has really only seen "Batman Begins" and/or "The Dark Knight" and is looking to find out more about who Batman REALLY is (remember, he was Bob Kane's comic-book ...

  • what u would expect :)

after having seen the new movie i was interested in finding some of the influences for it... having said that i don't exactly know the correlation between this book and the movie however it turns out to be a great graphic novel by itself.. created by the now famed Frank Miller(sin city, 300)... the book is well drawn (though was not nearly as stylized as his other works.) it covers the adventures of an aged tired batman and his last romp with some famous villians. so if u like batman and want some really interesting backstory, u should check it out p.s. u might not like the new robin though :)
