This is a fantastic and fineAntique Old Southwest New Mexico Olmec Still Life Oil Painting on canvas, depicting a Southwestern - Mexican still life scene, with an indigenous Mexican woven basket, various Pre-Columbian vessels, and an Olmec pottery figure displayed on a table. The detail in this painting is exceptional and captures the essence and historic importance of these artworks which are depicted. The red table that these pieces are displayed on is reflective, which is another visual trick by an artist with clear talent. Signed and dated: "Spurlock 1944" in the lower left corner. I could not find any information on this artist, but perhaps you knowmore about them or their work? This is likely by the hand of a talented early New Mexico painter. Approximately 22 1/2 x 28 1/2 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 18 x 24 inches. Very good condition for age and storage, with some scuffing and edge wear to the original period frame, and some light speckles of paint loss, pressure marks at the edges of the canvas, and one small tear to the upper right edge of the canvas (please see photos.)
