A very scarce and hard to find British Army officer's neck tie which dates from around the time of the Great War.

This tie belonged to William Charles Coleman Gell. He joined the Territorial Army in 1911 and was commissioned into the Warwickshire Regiment. He was transferred to the 5th/6th Battalion (Birmingham Rifles) in 1912 and went to France with them in 1915 where he won a Military Cross. He was wounded on the Somme in 1916 and went on to command the 1/5th Royal Warwicks after winning a DSO in 1917.

The tie is typical of Great War construction with a narrow shape. It slims down at the neck which is another typical trait of ties from the Edwardian period. The khaki coloured linen cotton material is also indicative of the time.

The tie is fitted with a name tag which reads 'W. C. C. Gell'.

A very hard to find piece of Great War period officer's uniform which would make an excellent addition to any First World War collection.
