1.6\" polished Fire Agate on matrix rock from Mexico. This specimen features a polished window of Fire Agate atop matrix rock. A variety of Chalcedony, Fire Agate is a semi-precious gemstone found only in parts of Mexico and the Southwestern United States. Fire Agate formed during the Tertiary Period approximately 24-36 million years ago when hot water saturated with silicate and iron oxide filled cracks and bubbles in the surrounding rock. Fire Agate shows an iridescent opalescent play of colors with bubbly botryoidal formations within the crystal. A fantastic Fire Agate specimen great for display, collection and study.
