18th-19th C Plan of Farm Zachariah Whiting by Oliver Holmes 2nd Laid Paper (NH):

Offered here is a hand-drawn map from the 18th or, more likely, early 19th century. On the front is written \"Plan of Farm Zachariah Whiting\". At the bottom of the page is written the following:
\"This plancontains 159 Acres & 12 rods.This plan drawn upon a Scale of 20 rodsto the Inch.By Oliver Holmes 2nd\"
The plan also carves out the \"Woodland\" of \"Widow Rebekah\" and \"Widow Rachel\".
After considerable online research, I have determined that the farm was located in or around Francestown, New Hampshire. Zachariah Whiting (1747-1814) was a Revolutionary War soldier whose father settled in that town. Whiting had a sister named Rebecca and his second wife was named Rachel. If this map was prepared upon hispassing in 1814, then \"Widow Rachel\" could be the second wife, who Whiting married in 1810 and who was considerably younger than he was, and \"Widow Rebekah\" could be a sister.
Also in Francestown at the same time was a Holmes family. Oliver Holmes Jr. (or 2nd) (1777-1833) was the son of a Major Oliver Holmes (1740-1806) who was a prominent citizen of Francestown and also served in the Revolutionary War. There is evidence online that Oliver Holmes Jr. (2nd) was a surveyor.
