This 18th Century Dutch Oval Brass Snuff Tobacco Box is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship that showcases engraved scenes on top and bottom. The top shows a man and woman with a deer between them and buildings in the background, along with engraved writing. The bottom shows what could be a hunting scene with a man, running deer, galloping horse, and buildings, with engraved wiring on the ends. The frontside and backside are monogrammed with initials and both the top and bottom have illegible engraved writing. The decoration is subdued due to more than 2 centuries of polishing, but can still be seen under good lighting. The box was handmade in the Netherlands and measures 6-1/8" L x 2-1/2" x 1-1/2" high. It is the perfect addition to any collection of tobacciana, especially for those who appreciate snuff boxes.
The box is in great estate condition and ready to be used or displayed. The interior shows an old bead of solder on the interior bottom front edge, as shown in the photo.
