Selling a French pauper memorial shield dated September 1902 for Emelie Hanouin.
Graves are rented in France, and particularly Paris due to constriction of space. Memorials such as these are little pieces of French history and art. More affluent families used large enamel hearts or great iron crosses. Families of lesser means created these unique "pauper" hearts and shields made of tin, zinc or other hard metal. In many cases I prefer the individuality and patina of a pauper heart.
