Famed General Dies-This is French General Maurice Gustave Gamelin as he appeared in London in June, 1939, where he conferred with British officials. Today, he died at the age of 85 in a Paris hospital where he had been confined for several weeks. He was stricken with paralysis in February. He achieved fame in World War I by correctly predicting the path the German armies would take. His failure to stem the German advance into France on World War II, as Supreme Allied Commander in 1940, cost him his command.
