Measuring about 9-1/2\" x 11\", this photograph album - if I\'ve counted correctly - contains 26 pages and a total of about 73-1/2 photographs (one of them\'s been torn in half to remove a woman from the picture). I see no captions or other clues to the actual identity of the original owner, or of the people in the pictures, so I\'ll tell you what I can deduce from the subject matter.
First, most of the people in the photos are in military uniform, and most of the uniforms are \"Air Police\", a branch of the military that came into being in 1948. The vehicles in some of the shots, however, look more like early 1950\'s models, including an official Air Police vehicle that is identifiable as a British Standard Vanguard, with the 1A style grille that was introduced in 1952. Most of the pictures were taken at military bases, but not all at the same one. In many of the shots, there are snow-covered mountains in the background, possibly somewhere in the Rockies, but another series - including the ones with the Standard Vanguard - have flat fields or farmland in the background. Zeroing in again on the Standard Vanguard, it has a military tag beside the grille that contains the initials \"ALC AFB\", possibly standing for Alconbury Air Force Base, a USAF base in the flatlands of England just north of London.
If it\'s any help, it was found in Wallace, North Carolina, but you know how these things can travel.
