This is an antique scrapbook that is filled with engravings of people, landscapes, buildings, and religious scenes.
Some of these have been hand annotated, some are the original annotations from the engraving.
Nearly 200 in the album stuck in. There are some loose. There are a number of pages blank in between the pages with items on. It has been done well with not too many on the pages. Single items on quite a lot of pages.
I see there are engraving prints of classic paintings which have then been hand written below.Unfortunately, I can\'t see any names or dates in the book so I\'m not sure who collected and annotated these pieces. The very first scrap stuck into the pages has been torn out, this may have had some information on.Please see photographs provided for more details and visual confirmation of condition.
There are normal signs of age and use wear, mostly on the edges and corners of the pieces.The exterior of the book is worn, especially on the edges and corners.
Some of the pages are crinkled slightly where it looks like they may have gotten damp. Some of the pages may be stained or discoloured.
It measures approx. 16 inches x 11 and 1/2 inches x 1 and a half inch deep it weighs 3.6 kilos. .This is one of the archive of antiques which belonged to a well known York historian, the late Mr Darrell Buttery MBE 1941 - 2022. He was a teacher, writer, and a very keen historian. Born in Guisborough to Olive and George Buttery. He was keen at all sorts of things during his early years being involved in the theatre and acting. He wrote The Streets of York, Four Centuries of Change ( 2018 ) book. He collected many items YORK related as well as paperwork and ephemera, the type of items which are usually burnt or thrown out long ago. Keeping his own family scrap albums. Some very good quality art pencil sketch books as well as watercolours too. Photograph albums and I am sure many photographs will never have been seen before so great for the York - Yorkshire collectors even now. Scrap albums with some fascinating contents.
