Holy cards and convent / monastery blessings date back centuries. Many convents and monasteries took vows of poverty, so when they created little blessings, they were wonderful little pieces of art made from the most humble of raw materials. These two are supplications to Mary to "pity us" and "pray for us". Included are pictures that are cut outs (as opposed to die cuts) of Mary. They are both done in the Style of Art Deco, with the soft curves added to the geometric edges. One features a little silk bow. They are beautifully made little pieces, just 3 3/4" tall. One features the mosst beautiful marbled paper that looks like the same type that was used as end paper on books from this era. They both feature lovely calligraphy style writing. Or maybe I should just call it "calligraphy". The nuns and friars and priests often gave these little card as gifts to the faithful. They were extra special, because they had been made by people close to God. They are still special, for that same reason! What a great gift these would be.
