4 Vtg 1950s Rte 66 NM Trading Post Hopi Kachinas Badger Guard Harvest Hunter.
Four different kachina dolls marked on the bottom with the figure being represented. These are simple dolls made by Hopi pueblo Native Americans for the tourist trade in the mid-1900s when the interstate highways were built and Americans traveled the roads to vacation en masse. Native America was a popular tourist attraction that helped certain tribes plug into the dominant market to earn money. A slice in time lot here.
Colors are vibrant, paint is intact. All are hand carved, hand constructed, and handpainted in the 1950s, possibly 1960s.
1. Badger: brown-tipped ears and protruding mouth. Measures 6 3/4\" tall. 2. Guard: red ears sticking out the sides. Measures 6\" tall. 3. Harvest: blue upwarding pointing ears. Measures 6\" tall. 4. Hunter: black-tippied ears with white dot and orange body. Measures 7\" tall.
