Condition: Good condition with crisp images, beautiful faces and hairstyles. Wearing their finest clothing, with calm, confident expressions. Photos are flat and complete. They have not been cleaned - to preserve original, antique condition. All have nice, lustre finish - some have rust or other finish issues (all shown in photographs).
Tintypes are also known as a melainotype or ferrotypes; photographs printed on a thin piece of metal that had been coated with lacquer or enamel. They were most popular during the 1860s and 1870s. Interesting note: It appears the tintypes of couples are not wearing wedding rings on their left hands. This is because tintypes are usually camera originals, so the image is usually a mirror image, reversed left to right from reality.
Measurements: Each tintype is approx. 3.5" x 2-3/8". This is known as a1/6plate tintype.
