A Spanish “Caribe” or “Bilbao” hilt rapier circa 1720.
Thin, unmarked diamond shaped 38 inch blade. Bilbao style cup hilt with well forged wide trumpet shaped quillons. Blade has deep even age brown patina. Steel cup is on good condition. The steel hilt with fine old repair to both quillons. Characteristic bilbao type squash pommel with chiseled line decoration. Twisted wire bound wood grip with steel collars, wire slightly loose. The blade likely a very old period replacement. 45 inches overall. Condition overall is good with repairs as noted.
