LEVER RATCHET-WIND BERLINER GRAMOPHONE
A c.1897 creation of Emile Berliner, who earlier (until 1896) produced gramophones that were hand-driven. The first spring-driven Berliners had metal cases, which were superseded in 1897 by oak cases such as this example.
Shortly after the lever-wind system was introduced, it was replaced with a conventional top-wind crank. Thus the lever-wind was made in very limited numbers and is prized by collectors today.
This phonograph is 100% original, except for a new fiber gear professionally installed about a year ago when the motor was also serviced. Everything else, including the horn, record hold down, reproducer, etc. is original. The original leather elbow has a tear and we will also supply a new elbow if desired.This is an opportunity to acquire a true museum piece that is of heirloom quality.
