ANTIQUE JAPANESE TOOL AWARD WINNG SIGNED FORGED IRON NICE MAEBIKI NOKOGIRI SAW:
$275.00

This huge antique Japanese saw ornokogiriwas hand forged by the Japanese master blade maker, Katahachi and warrantied and approved by the Tosa Blade association (see pictures 3-8). It also states that it was specially commissioned.over a century ago.It is the type of timber saw used in woodworking and Japanese carpentry that cuts on the pull stroke, unlike European saws which cut on the push stroke. This allows it to have a thinner blade that cuts more efficiently and leaves a narrower cut width (see picture 15). Made of a high qualitylaminatedcarbon steel and carefully milled by hand. Along with the blade smiths name (translation upcoming), it has several stamps etched into its forged iron blade. (see pictues 3 - 8).
Note the smaller teeth toward the handle end of the blade (see picture 11). This was used to help make an efficient starting cut before proceeding with the larger teeth. The kiri(paulownia) wood handle (see pictures 16 & 17) is still in remarkable condition for a 100 year old piece. This timber nokogiri saw is complete with all teeth sharp and along with anaged patina it remains, with exception to some minor oxiation, overall in excellentconditionthroughout, as seen in the enlarged pictures. A rare piece of character and quality from over a century past. The thickness of this blade helped to create a straight "rip" cut down the length of a log. All teeth are sharp and ready to cut a log in any direction of your choosing. This type of saw required an especially powerful kobiki-shokunin (sawyer) as seen in the 1830's Hokusai woodblock print in the last picture (not included).Measures 35" overall (89 cm). With a blade length (teeth area) of 23" long by 4 1/4" wide (48 x 12 cm). Old world craftsmanship for the new world craftsman! You'll love it, I guarantee it.........If you purchase this item and are not completely delighted with it, you may return it for a no questions asked, refund within 30 days of receipt.
