I am selling my collection of Anasazi pot shards collected around Sedona, Flagstaff, Cottonwood and that general area of Arizona during the 1960\'s and 1970\'s. This North Central area includes both the Anasazi and Mogollon cultures. These pot shards date from 1050 AD to 1150 AD.
Anasazi culture was widespread and considerable variety exists within pottery.
Archaeologists have categorized Anasazi pottery types into a number of wares, or groups of pottery types which share the majority of structural and decorative features.
Within each ware, a historical sequence can be traced from the beginnings of Anasazi culture to the end. Offered is a rim shard of a medium sized seed jar, it measures 4 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches. Showing a striped diagonal pattern, black on white grey slip. This piece is as found.I will leave it to the buyer to identify the ware or group of pottery type which this piece belongs to.
Material: The clay is medium to light gray
Construction: Coiled-and-scraped
Paint: Organic-based on polished unsliped or on white slip
Firing: Neutral to reducing atmosphere
