On offer here is a an Antique PRATTWARE Bear\'s Grease Pot lid. It is called \"Bears on Rocks\" and is rated R (rare) in Mortimer\'s Reference book. It dates to around 1870 & is valued by Mortimer at between $62-$100, I am offering it here at a hugely discounted price! Only $22.95!The lid measures almost 3\" in diameter and the complete jar with lid in place stands 1 1/2\" high.

For any viewers who may not know what Bears grease was used for: In theVictorian era, it was believed that the grease from a bear carcass couldstimulate hair growth and help prevent baldness. The idea being, that the densefur of the bear would somehow be transposed to stimulate hair growth in humans,when the grease was applied to the human cranium!!!

Back in the day, the grease was scraped off the fatty parts ofthe bear skin & carcass and mixed with various perfumes to make it moreappealing. It was then marketed in these small lidded pots (and usedextensively) as a men’s cosmetic.
