Antique Early 1800s Doulton-Burslem Gray/ White Transferware Chamber Pot:
$98.00

Antique Early 1800s Doulton-Burslem Gray/ White Transferware Chamber Pot

This chamber pot is 9 1/2 “ in diameter across the top opening, not including the handle, which extends about 2”. The height is 6”. The beautiful and delicate transferware design around the sides and across the handle is done in shades of gray over a bone white background, and the interior of the pot is bone white.

In researching the age of this Doulton Burslem piece, I would estimate that it was made in the early 1800s, roughly 1834-1836.

This pot is in very good and solid antique condition, without any damage, cracks or chips, but there is crazing on both inside and outside surfaces, and a few little “bug bites” or “pimples” on the base (pictured). The base of the pot shows some scuffing from surface contact.

The underside has the maker’s mark, Doulton Burslem, underneath the figure of a crown. Under the logo are the letters HOP. I am not sure what those letters reference. The markings are very clear and not worn.

This old chamber pot makes an ideal planter or bowl for a large flower arrangement, and a nice addition to a collection of like pieces. Very striking with it’s pretty painted design, and in remarkable condition for such an antique piece. This chamber pot is quite large and heavy, at over 4 lbs.
