Lovely hand painted American Satsuma covered jar decorated in a vibrant floral pattern using raised enamels. Hand signed in blue underglaze “F. A. Barothy”. Frances Barothy studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and was a long time member of the Atlan Ceramic Arts Club being active from 1901-1928. Measures about 6in diameter and 3.5in height. Condition: Chip to edge of lid which is not very noticeable on the exterior but extends into the underside of lid, wear to gilding along top and bottom edges were lid meets body. All told this is a good looking piece that shows well and has a couple minor blemishes typical of the age and this type of porous clay body.
