Nice looking 17" antique cleaver and antique sharpening steel. I see a marking above the 9 on the cleaver and can't make it out...looks like it would say GENUINE and below that is something that looks like a capital A inside of a diamond. I think this is in nice condition for age...view pictures and decide for yourself...I see no pitting to the blade. Has a 9 1/4" length blade and the widest part at the end of the blade is right at 6 1/2"The sharpening steel is nice and about 16 1/2" in length with the sharpening portion being 10 1/4"...marked F DICK MADE IN GERMANY with an arrow that points toward the handle. A magnet does not attract to the guard or anything above the guard...I can see clearly that the top ring is brass in color. These have been together for a long time, so I decided to keep them together as long as I had them.
Looks like it wouldn't take much work with the sharpening steel to put a razor edge on the cleaver it if you wanted a razor edge. Is obvious it hasn't been sharpened for a long time and the edge really looks good with only a few minor nicks...no gouges...would sharpen up nicely very easily.
Selling both just as pictured and I see no reason you shouldn't be pleased with both.
I just had my store in vacation mode for the last few months...am back off vacation for just a short time...and will be going back into vacation mode for a few more months...am finding that vacation can actually be fun even though I am getting a lot of projects completed.
If you have any interest in this sale, you should probably save it in your favorites...once I go back into vacation mode, I don't check for messages nearly as often and none of my items are for sale while in vacation mode. I think if you have my item saved in your favorites you can still see my items and make contact...if you don't have the sale saved, I don't think you will be able to see any of my sales while I am in vacation mode.
