Antique Leather Pre WW1 US Army Cartridge Box .30 - 06 RIA 1906 Merriam Pack:

This is an interesting and RARE piece of military history! This US Army Cartridge Box or Pouch was made by the Rock Island Arsenal (RIA) in 1906. The heavy duty leather is still pliable, though there is minor cracking on the flap. The brass rivets are all intact, as is the brass snap closure. (see photos). The leather is a beautiful dark brown. It is about 5 inches wide. 

This was designed and built for the Merriam Pack System for use by infantry. After testing, the system was not adopted by the US Military (see the forum post in the photos) It holds eight stripper clips, 5 rounds each of .30 - 06. It has a brass closure.
