Antique Turkana Tribe Carved Wood Hide Covered Honey Milk Bucket Jug Kenya, Africa.

The Turkana are a Nilotic people native to the Turkana District in northwest Kenya, a semi-arid climate region bordering Lake Turkana in the east, Pokot, Rendille and Samburu people to the south, Uganda to the west, and South Sudan and Ethiopia to the north. They refer to their land as Turkan.

This is a vintage milk and/or honey jug carved out of wood by Turkana people covered with goat skin for insulation. Beautiful craftsmanship.

Purchased at sale over 30 years ago, no other information available. This container had been used to store honey during it’s early beginnings.

Container measures approximately 7 1/2 height x 4 1/2 at base and 2 1/2 at top.
