From my personal collection, and the only one of this set I\'ve seen.A graceful dancer in a pose that probably has a name in the dancing (or figure skating) world. Designed by Peter Manfredi, his name formed into the tops of the bases. While I have not included a photo showing it, the figures would be placed sideways - scarf side (the back) up against the books.Bronze-clad, a manufacturing technique whereby a skin of bronze was deposited on a plaster form through the process of electro-plating. A handful of companies used this method in the early 1900s to make decorative household objects that had the look, feel and heft of solid bronze yet still were affordable by the middle class.One of those companies was Pompeian Bronze, operating in NYC from the early 20s to the early 30s. No maker\'s mark (there would have been foil labels on the bottoms) but the colors definitely are Pompeian. I have found numerous copyrights of Manfredi bookend designs (though not this particular one), all dated 1921.Condition is fine. No breaks in the cladding. A good dent in the back of the base of piece on left (photo 4) and a couple dings to the top of the chest of figure on the right (last photo). Otherwise, some flea bite nicks and dings here and there.Paint is original, mostly intact. Both pieces sit flat and stable.7 1/4 inches tall; base is 4 3/8 inches the long way but the figure is 7 3/4 inches from head to toe; base is 2 1/2 inches the short way.Perfect gift for the aspiring ballet dancer in your family.US shipping only.
