Parker and Stone developed the show fromThe Spirit of Christmas, two consecutive animated shorts.     Since its debut on August 13, 1997,297 episodesofSouth Parkhave been broadcast. It debuted with great success, consistently earning the highest ratings of any basic cable program. Subsequent ratings have varied but it remains one of Comedy Central\'s highest rated shows, and is slated to air new episodes through 2019.[2][3][4]Thepilot episodewas produced usingcutout animation, leading to all subsequent episodes being produced withcomputer animationthat emulated the cutout technique. Parker and Stone perform most of thevoice actingfor the show\'s male characters. Since 2000, each episode has typically been written and produced in the week preceding its broadcast, with Parker serving as the primarywriteranddirector. The show\'s twenty-third season will premiere on September 25, 2019.[5]On September 12, 2019, the show was renewed for seasons 24 through 26 until 2022.[6]

    South Parkhas received numerous accolades, including fivePrimetime Emmy Awards, aPeabody Award, and numerous inclusions in various publications\' lists of greatest television shows.
