A lovely hand-crafted wooden box gifted to Mr. and Mrs. George Dorr O\'Neill from Elinor Carnill, circa 1950s. In fair condition with cracks and surface wear- see pictures. Box features invitation inscription on front, pink lining, and a handwritten notecard. Front of box is inscribed: Mr. and Mrs. George Dorr O\'Neill request the pleasure of your company and a dinner dance on Saturday, the twenty-eighth of June at half after seven o\'clock, Sunset Road, Oyster Bay, Long Island. Notecard reads: Made in the Home Studios of Bill Johnson- by Elinor Carnill under the able direction of Sara Johnson and Ann Morrison. We had many laughs -better than tears- could we help it if the ink on your invitation ran? The box is less than perfect but I hope the warm wishes for you both that accompany it will make up for the imperfections. It is barely dry and should not be used for several weeks. We shall be thinking of you on the 28rh and promise to drink many toasts to your good fair and lifelong happiness.
