CARTE-DE-VISITE OF CIVIL WAR BRIG. GEN. SAMUEL BRECK, TOGETHER WITH A CDV OF HIS 10 YEAR OLD SON, SAMUEL BRECK, JR. Two original carte-de-visite photographs. Albumen prints on photographers’ cardstock mounts (c.4 x 2.5 inches). The CDV of Gen. Breck has no photographer’s backmark, but is Civil War era. The CDV of his son, Samuel Jr., has a San Francisco studio’s imprint: Shew’s New Photographic Establishment, and is identified & dated on verso in a contemporary hand: “Sam’l Buck Jr. 10 yrs. Old 4 ft 5” high. Aug. 8, ‘72.” Some wear, small chip & few pin-holes in upper margin. Please see photographs to assess condition. These came out of an album of Civil War CDVs, and probably came from the Breck family. Please see my other listings for more, newly listed Civil War CDVs. Brig. Gen. Samuel Breck (1834-1919) was an officer in the United States Army who served in the Third Seminole War, the Civil War, and Indian Wars. He was Adjutant General of the U.S. Army from 1897 to 1898.
