CDV RARE SIR DOUGLAS GALTON ENGINEER FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE NURSING ANTIQUE PHOTO :

Rare CDV of the engineer, Sir Douglas Strutt Galton.  His wife was Florence Nightingale's cousin.  Sir Douglas worked very closely with Florence Nightingale for years on safer designs for hospitals and barracks.  There are many volumes of correspondance between the pair.  They were both advocates of the "pavilion" mode of construction, which made Britain a world leader in hospital safety. 

Sir Douglas had one son, named Herbert Nightingale Douglas, who he named after Florence Nightingale.  The son died in infancy.
