Here is an antique beautiful and historic cabinet card type photo of George H. Bond. It was done by the famous CL Howe's son JC Howe of Brattleboro, Vermont. Bond is seen in his Military uniform complete with is medals and cap.George Bond was listed on some muster rolls as Herbert G. Bond. He enlisted in 1862 during the Civil War in Company 1, 16th Vermont and he was present at the Battle of Gettysburg. He mustered out in 1863 and after the war he served as a Drum Major in the First and Second Vermont National Guard, eventually earning commissions to Colonel in 1895 and Brevet Brigadier general in 1897. He also served as escort to the Governor of Vermont during the 1876 Centennial Exposition, and he was in command of the Vermont troops who marched in Washington DC at the Inauguration of President William McKinley.The overall size is 8" by 6", the image size is 5" by 3 1/2" oval, and it's fine used condition with lite surface wear and small corner bumps as seen on the photos.
