BRIEF HISTORY OF EVANS TURQUOISE

The most famous turquoise mine in Baja Mexico is the old EvansMine in the Ensenada area along the northern coast. It is one of the few minessouth of the California border that has yielded such a wide variety ofturquoise. Evans turquoise looks muchlike the turquoise from some of the Nevada mines in America. The colors varyfrom a high blue with an exquisite brown matrix to a green with a lovely goldmatrix. The formations range from very thin veins of dark blue turquoise tonuggets to flat specimens.

There is a limited amount of this material on the market becausethe mine was covered up in the 1990\'s making Evans turquoise harder to acquireand extremely collectible.
